While the benefits of interactive listening are well-established, Persian language teaching continues to predominantly rely on one-way listening exercises where learners passively receive information without opportunities for dialogue or clarification. This approach overlooks the inherently interactive nature of listening, which requires active engagement between speakers and listeners (Brown & Lee, 2015). Interactive listening circles address this gap by creating structured yet flexible listening environments that enable learners to enhance their comprehension skills through peer interaction and guided discussions. This study examines the impact of interactive listening circles on the listening comprehension of non-native Persian learners. Employing an experimental pretest-posttest control group design, the research involved 60 adult upper-intermediate Iraqi learners of Persian, who were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (participating in interactive listening circles) or a control group (receiving traditional listening instruction). A mixed-methods approach was used, combining quantitative and qualitative analyses. Quantitative results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in the listening comprehension scores of the experimental group compared to the control group. Qualitative findings revealed that participants perceived the interactive listening circles as both engaging and effective for improving listening proficiency. Consequently, the study rejects the null hypothesis that interactive listening circles have no significant impact on the listening comprehension of non-native Persian learners, providing empirical support for interactive, collaborative approaches to language learning. By highlighting the effectiveness of structured interactive listening activities, this research contributes to Persian language pedagogy and underscores the need to incorporate such approaches into curriculum design.
